Budget-Friendly Spring Home Makeover Ideas
Finally, it seems like spring is just around the corner and winter is fading away. When spring comes, I usually feel like giving my home a little spring makeover. Nothing major, just a way to freshen things up a bit. Making a few easy changes can totally refresh your home for spring without breaking the bank.
Why you should give your home a spring makeover
Boost your mood and wellbeing – A refreshed space can lift your spirits and reduce stress. Bright colours, natural light, and tidy surroundings create a more positive vibe that helps with relaxation.
Reflect any life changes – As your lifestyle changes, it’s a good idea to update your home. Giving your space a makeover can help it fit with your current needs, whether that’s setting up a home office, making a cosy reading area, or having a kitchen that works better for you.
Increase comfort and functionality – Making your home more comfortable and functional can be as easy as rearranging furniture, improving your lighting, or updating your storage.
Add value to your property – Even small updates like a fresh coat of paint or some new fixtures can increase your home’s market value and make it more appealing to potential buyers.
Encourage decluttering and organisation – A makeover often starts with getting rid of stuff that you no longer need. This helps you create a cleaner, more organised environment that’s much easier to keep up with.
Seasonal renewal – Just like nature changes with the seasons, your home can do the same, too. A little refresh in spring or autumn keeps your space feeling fresh and in tune with the time of year.
How to give your home a makeover.
Declutter and reorganise.
- Do a spring clean. Go through your stuff and donate or sell items you no longer use. Then do a deep clean throughout your home to brighten your space.
- Try to rearrange your furniture. A new layout can make your space feel brand new without spending anything. It could also create a better flow or open up your space.
Update soft furnishings.
- Swap your cushion covers and choose floral or light linen fabrics for a spring vibe.
- Replacing heavy winter blankets with lighter fabrics in pastel or floral tones can make your sofa look refreshed.
Add greenery.
- Add indoor plants to your home and choose low-maintenance options like snake plants or succulents. This will give you some greenery and also help with making your air quality better.
- DIY planters – you could repurpose jars, tins, or baskets for a rustic touch.
Refresh with colour.
- Paint an accent wall. Picking a single wall in a soft pastel or earthy tone can instantly brighten a room.
- DIY furniture painting. Give your old furniture a new life with chalk paint or spray paint, and find a video on YouTube on how to do it correctly.
- Paint old picture frames, or vases, in cheerful spring colours. In the frames, you could create your own new design from canva.com.
Brighten with light.
- Let in more natural light with sheer curtains to make rooms feel airy.
- Give your windows a good clean to let in more natural light.
- Do a DIY lampshade makeover by recovering old shades with fabric or wallpaper remnants.
Bring in seasonal scents.
- Use homemade candles or diffusers. Use citrus, linen, or eucalyptus essential oils.
- Buy a bunch of fresh flowers and display them in simple vases. Even a small bunch from the supermarket can lift a room.
Small decor tweaks.
- Make a gallery wall. Frame your postcards, or your own photos, for a personal touch.
- Place mirrors opposite windows to reflect light and make spaces feel larger.
- Change your cabinet knobs or drawer pulls to give yourself an instant upgrade.
- Add a new doormat or a spring wreath to your doorway.
Outdoor touches.
- Clean and style your garden or balcony. Add a small rug, fairy lights, or potted plants.
- DIY garden décor. You could paint old pots or create a simple pallet planter to spruce things up. Have a search on YouTube to get a good video on how to do it.
