How to Wrap Up Christmas Preparations Before December.
Why you should consider preparing early for Christmas.
Lowers stress levels– When you prepare for Christmas ahead of time, this lets you plan calmly. You stay clear of the craziness and stress of last-minute shopping or decorating.
Saves money – You can take advantage of sales during the summer, autumn and possibly Black Friday. Also, you can compare prices across various shops and websites, and spread out your spending, which is less overwhelming than doing it all at once.
Improves organisation – Preparing in advance helps you manage decorations, menus, and events smoothly, making sure nothing and no one is forgotten.
Creates more time for enjoyment – The best time is when the busy tasks are done ahead of time, and then you can relax and spend quality time with family, and truly enjoy the season.
How to prepare for Christmas early.
Set a budget
- Decide how much you want to spend on gifts, decorations, food, and activities.
- Keep a track of expenses as you buy things to avoid overspending.
- Start saving a little each month to spread out costs.
Plan gift giving
- Make a list of people that you are going to buy for and brainstorm gift ideas early.
- Watch out for sales and discounts throughout the year.
- Consider making the gifts yourself if you enjoy crafting.
- Buy extra wrapping paper, tags, gift bags and tape in case you run out when wrapping everything. It’s annoying when you run out, and it stops your flow!
- Pick up a couple of generic gifts in case someone buys you something, and you have nothing to return. Candles, mugs, or a box of chocolates. You get the idea!
- Make sure you buy presents with enough time to take advantage of free deliveries and still get them in time for Christmas.
Organise decorations
- Plan a theme or colour scheme for this year’s décor. Traditional, Elegant, modern or boho, there are so many to choose from!
- Check what you already have for your decorations and fix or replace what’s needed.
Prepare the home
- Try to declutter your home before Christmas, especially if you have little ones with lots of toys.
- Clean your spaces before adding decorations.
- Create a cosy area for friends and family gatherings with soft blankets and cushions.
- Make a Christmas playlist of your favourite Christmas songs.
Plan meals and baking
- Decide on menus for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and any parties, and make a shopping list.
- Buy non-perishable ingredients, drinks, sweets, snacks, and chocolate early to steer clear of overcrowded shops.
- Prepare and freeze the meals that you can in advance.
- Make sure you have enough tinfoil, wrap and food storage containers with lids.
- Reserve your online food delivery slot if you get food delivered in December, as they can go very fast.
Schedule events and traditions
- Mark important dates for family gatherings, church services, or parties.
- Book time off work if you need to go to your child’s school plays, etc.
- Reserve any hair or beauty appointments early, as they will fill up fast.
- If you are eating out at a restaurant at Christmas, book early to avoid being disappointed.
- Plan fun traditions like movie nights, Advent calendars, or volunteering.
- Prepare your outfits to make sure you have something nice to wear for each occasion.
- If you are travelling or going to the theatre, book early to get the best deals and avoid last-minute prices.
Send cards and invitations early
- Update your mailing lists and addresses.
- Write and send cards or invitations a few weeks before December.
- Buy enough stamps for the cards you are sending.
- Make sure that if you are sending any cards through the post, you know the last dates for posting to make sure they arrive before Christmas.
Manage stress and enjoy the season
- Make sure you take time to relax and enjoy festive moments.
- Focus on connection and gratitude rather than making everything perfect.
- Preparing for Christmas early creates a smoother holiday season filled with warmth, organisation, and special memories.
If money is tight, it’s better to avoid going into debt for Christmas gifts. That can really add stress and make January tougher with both anxiety and financial woes. January is hard enough without the added burden of debt and interest. Be mindful of the pressure and influence from ads and social media about spending, especially influencers showing big hauls and unboxing.
Coming in November, I will be posting a Spotify Christmas playlist.
