As a child, I absolutely loved reading books and comics. I could happily spend hours reading and rereading the same stories. Somewhere along the way, I stopped reading as much, but it’s something I’d like to get back into. There’s nothing quite like getting lost in a really good book.

Here are some of my favourite childhood reads, in no particular order:

• The Magic Faraway Tree – Enid Blyton
• Fungus the Bogeyman – Raymond Briggs
• Topsy and Tim – Jean and Gareth Adamson
• The Jolly Postman or Other People’s Letters – Janet and Allan Ahlberg
• My Naughty Little Sister – Shirley Hughes
• The Wind in the Willows – Kenneth Grahame
• Frog and Toad – Arnold Lobel
• Haunted House – Jan Pienkowski – This was an amazing pop-up book!
• Twinkle – “the picture paper specially for little girls,”
• Beezer – This had the characters “The Numskulls”
• Garfield – Jim Davis
• Usborne books of facts and lists – Anita Ganeri – This book started my lifelong love of facts and lists.
